Salzburg Airport W.A. Mozart
Salzburg’s international airport W.A. Mozart Airport receives many international direct flights each day, as well as local short distance flights from Vienna, Linz and Graz. The airport is approximately four kilometres west of the city centre and is reachable with Bus Line Nr. 2, which operates during the day every 10 minutes and every 20 minutes in the evenings. The bus travels from the airport to the train station, with a travel time of approximately 20 minutes. An adult ticket for the bus journey costs € 2,00 and can be purchased from machines or directly from the bus driver (extra charge). It is also possible to take a taxi.
If a direct flight to Salzburg is not possible, most people fly into either Vienna or Munich, Germany, and then continue on to Salzburg via the Österreichischen Bundesbahn (ÖBB = Austrian Railway Company) or with the Deutsche Bahn (DB = German Railway Company).
From the Vienna-Airport, there are many opportunities for transportation to the Central Railway Station, Wien-Westbahnhof. The Vienna Airport Line (Nr. 1187) travels for example from the airport to the train station every thirty minutes. The trip takes around 35 minutes and costs € 6,00. From Wien-Westbahnhof trains depart for Salzburg every hour from 5:00 a.m. until midnight. The journey takes from 2 to 3 1/2 hours and costs approximately € 45,00 one way, 2nd class.
In Munich, the central railway station (“Hauptbahnhof”) can be reached from the airport via the S-Bahn lines S1 and S8. S-Bahn tickets cost € 9,00 each way. Connections to Salzburg are also possible at Munich’s train station “Ostbahnhof.” Trains depart from Munich to Salzburg approximately every hour and tickets cost € 25,50 (with regional trains), € 23,00 (with the Bayern Ticket Single, incl. S-Bahn, with time restrictions), or € 29,00 (with slightly faster trains).

By Train to Salzburg
Because of its location, Salzburg is very easy to reach by train. The Salzburg Central Train Station (“Hauptbahnhof”) is close to the city centre. Many local and regional buses stop at the plaza in front of the station for passenger pick-up and drop-off (5:00 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.).
By Car
The Austrian motorways, so-called “Autobahnen“ provide the best access to Salzburg by car. The Westautobahn A 1 from Vienna via Linz provides access from the East. The A 8 (Munich, Germany / Innsbruck, Austria) provides access from the West and the A 10 Villach/Graz comes from the South (Italy and Slovenia).
Salzburg’s public transport system is very well-developed. All of the city’s major areas are accessible by one of the environmentally friendly city buses. Bus stops are clearly indicated by signs. Single tickets have to be validated at the validating machine on the bus before each trip. Weekly- and monthly tickets need to be validated only once.

The Salzburg Public Transportation Service Center is located in the basement of the Central Station, Salzburger Lokalbahnhof , Südtiroler Platz.It is there that you can get tickets, information and other material.
